Where your iPad supports it, the Battery Health screen tells you directly what state the battery is in. Compared to the iPhone, iPad support arrived late, and only newer models show the information natively.
Native Battery Health is available on iPad Pro (M4) and iPad Pro (M5), iPad Air (M2) and later, iPad (A16), and iPad mini (A17 Pro). On these models, the path is Settings, Battery, Battery Health.
